
Isabelle is a Singapore artist. A judge, art writer and an art instructor. After having moved around South East Asia for two decades, currently, she lives and paints full time in Hong Kong.
Primarily a self-taught in drawing and painting, she enrolled on her art education through Open College of the Art, a Fine Art Correspondence institution based in the United Kingdom under the tutelage of Edward Phelps. She received the Residency Fellowship at Vermont Studio Center, U.S.A. in 2001 & 2008 and attended other intensive courses and workshop in U.K., France, Australia and Indonesia.
The diverse subjects she chooses to paint are based largely on Asian culture and the simplistic environment. She believes painting is all about colors, light and contrast. The Asian folk subjects have driven her to develop a few painting series. The paintings are series of “Journey”, "Hong Kong Residents" - goldfish in plastic bags, "Sunny Side Up" - Bicycles and ceramic wares, the "Village Boys" series that depicting colorful and lively Koi fish from her Hong Kong village home environment. Currently, she is exploring the new “Discovery” and “Samsara”. The Discovery series depicts mostly the shadows and reflections of landscape on the water surface while Samsara is about the lotus pond and colors of early evening.
Isabelle is a Master Pastelist - Pastel Society of America ; Maître Pastelliste ( de la Sociéte des Pastellistes de France ), a member of Master Circle of International Association of Pastel Societies ( I A P S ); Honorable Member – Pastel Society of Taipei; Signature Member Degas Pastel Society.
She exhibits regularly at some selected international juried and invitational shows. She has won numerous international art awards. Isabelle contributes her writings for international art magazines, Pratique des Arts and Pastel Journal (an Honorary Editorial Advisory Board ). Her pastel works are featured in several art books and international publication including been selected as pastel product's advertisements and the color charts.
2021, Juror of Selection, “Pure Color” international pastel exhibition hosted by The Pastel Society of North Carolina. 2020, Juror of Selection, Pastel Society of Southern California and PAPAT, Taiwan. 2019, Juror of Selection & Judge of Award, Zhuhai Xiangzhou Pastel Alliance and Juror of Selection, PAPAT, Taiwan. 2018, as an Invitée d'Honneur & Judge of Awards at The 3rd International Pastel d’Opale, Bulounge-sur-Mer, France.
2015, The International Association of Pastel Societies honoured her as a Judge of Awards at the 26th Juried Exhibition at the 11th IAPS Convention in Albuquerque, U.S.A.; Pastel Society of America, NYC honoured her as a “Friend of Pastel Honoree” in 2015; Société des Pastellistes de France honoured her as an Invitée d'Honneur at International Salon du Pastellistes, Montluçon, France in March 2014.
Mungyo Kyojai Korea honoured Isabelle’s painting on the cover of their MPV pastel series.
