How do you imagine love in the next 1000 years?
We currently live in a fast-paced world where everything changes at a rapid rate. Many people are continually adjusting and adapting to keep up, and yet our society is rife with criticism and judgment. As a result, some people have lost themselves, abandoned their dreams, or even fallen into a state of despair over love.
“Nateepol Charoenthurayont’s solo exhibition” Love in 3020 – Chapter: It’s gonna be ok.” marks the beginning of his journey towards “Love in 3020,” or love in the next 1000 years. In which he expects to meet both joy, hope, disappointment, and heartbreak along the way.
The artist’s intention with this series of works is to encourage those who hesitate to tread the path of love to walk through each chapter of life with hope; to hold on to what they value and cherish; and, more importantly, to dare to stay true to themselves in the midst of a society that can appear dismal and chaotic at times. These sentiments are expressed through the hugging and comforting gestures of the characters on the woodblocks —crafted with the technique of woodcut printing — who are portrayed with a range of emotions on their faces. Either the crying, the angry, the neutral — or the smiling face, which on the surface may appear to be full of happiness: but it is the happiness that comes from passing through grief with understanding.
